Why I’m optimistic about the next 5 yearsMay 4, 2010
In the months since I became Labour’s candidate I have met constituents all over Beaconsfield – from Denham to Marlow, from Burnham to Flackwell Heath. I have listened, responded and have tried to earn your support. If you elect me as your MP, I will work hard: to make sure that we cut our debt, but wisely and when the economy can bear it, that we don’t damage growth or jobs, that our taxes are fair and our families are supported to help reduce our carbon use and to invest in green jobs to help our environment and boost our economy to make sure our police have the funds they need to keep reducing burglary and antisocial behaviour in South Bucks by spending more time on our streets to protect our schools budget, keep raising standards and give parents rights to reform underperforming schools to protect our hospitals budget and introduce your legal guarantees to the low waiting times and flexible GP access you’re used to and to fast cancer care to make sure young people can access affordable local housing to protect Beaconsfield’s local communities and give them more of a say over post offices and other local services to make sure older people most in need have access to decent care at home, and to re-link pensions to earnings to end the scandal of MPs second jobs and introduce a fairer voting system and the right to sack your MP I am optimistic about our plans for the next five years – they are ambitious, practical and deliverable. |
